I worry that commenting on a fic for a fandom the writer is no longer interested in may actually make them feel like shit/guilty for no longer being interested in that fic/fandom. Or make them resent the fic or remember it exists and decide "time to delete this, I don't want to be pestered about this old fic or give people false hope anymore". I'm glad you had a good experience with that OP, but it's not always the case :(

I mean, it might? But that's not within your control. The comment you just typed that's perfectly innocuous to most people might send someone over the edge and they'll go on a spree of bank robbery and puppy kidnapping all over the country, but you can only worry about other peoples' reactions up until a point.
