Stranger Things 3
(Anonymous) 2019-07-07 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Stranger Things 3
And i enjoyed it quite a bit. I have no clue if there's going to be a fourth season (though it looks like yes, considering how it all ended).
Loved the new people (Erica, Robin), loved Billy's arc, loved Max & El, loved Suzie the Mormon genius! Heee. Felt so very badly for Max, poor thing, but love how she was basically 'don't take any shit from these boys!' with El, and how El broke out and kind of found herself.
I continue to not feel terribly sorry for or happy with Hopper, especially his interactions with El. I just...arrgh.
The 'monster' was freakily horrible, and I felt so bad for Will, wanting to hold onto the past, the last year or two of his childhood that ended so badly, with so much fear and upset. Dustin continues to be awesome. Joyce continues to be awesome. Nancy and Jonathan were...i dunno. I liked Nancy standing up for herself (though the newspaper guys seemed a bit over the top), but wish she'd done it sooner. Jonathan seemed to kind of just...be there? I dunno.
Steve was so fun, and he and Robin were great together, and Steve and the kids.... All good!
Re: Stranger Things 3
I felt really bad for Will, and I pictured the whole thing ending (after the passage of time) with all of the kids, including El and Max, playing D&D together, but that's... not what happened. That was part of the theme, I think, growing up and changing, and while I don't expect extreme depth from Stranger Things I thought they pulled it off well.
The ending was so sad. People told me it was and I thought I knew what they were talking about when [SPOILERS] but even "three months later" was sad.
Overall I really enjoyed it. I'm sure there will be a Season 4 and I just hope they keep up the tone and the characterization they've had so far.
Re: Stranger Things 3
I felt sorry for Billy, too, and i was glad he got his moment of redemption.
It *was* sad!! The party has broken up!! I dunno what they're going to do for a season four, but i look forward to it.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-08 01:50 am (UTC)(link)Though I really liked Hopper in season 1 and 2, I actually found him insufferable this season. Still, hope he comes back, I overall really liked his arc with Eleven.
Re: Stranger Things 3
I don't know if I think he's dead or not. If he's not he's definitely in an extremely unpleasant situation to say the least.
Re: Stranger Things 3
(Anonymous) 2019-07-08 01:59 am (UTC)(link)I found it kind of disappointing, tbh. I realize it took place over a week, but everyone was paired up with their groups and there was zero overlap until the very end. Especially weird since the kids (well, Dustin) were split, both Dustin's group and the other kid group were tackling their own insane mysteries and never seemed concerned that they weren't together as a team.
Overall, felt like the content would've been fine as a movie but was just too much spread over eight seasons with so many unnecessary scenes.
Was sad that Will didn't get much to do beyond gasp and say "He's here!", since I think he's the strongest of the kid actors and honestly the most interesting of the kid characters besides *maybe* Eleven, though she's kind of run her course tbh (though the twist about randomly losing her powers at least changes this up a bit). I was expecting Will to have more confrontation with the Mind Flayer, considering he literally was the thing's host last season, but oh well, give him a rest from being the series damsel in distress.
I don't think Hopper's actually dead. I'm not super attached to his character or anything, but I found the final scenes so fucking annoying I'll just be irritated to fuck if he doesn't come back. SUPER TIME SENSITIVE MISSION: let's sing a random musical number, let Hopper and Winona Ryder share knowing but worried glances, stare at the Gate in awe for a few seconds, crack a line about "ready to end this?" (no SHIT asshole) and slowly, ever so slowly, start counting ONE... TWO.. aw fuck Russian Terminator showed up to fuck shit up. Seriously so predictable and aggravating.

I liked parts of it. Pretty much everything with Steve, Robin, Dustin, and Erica was great. In the beginning couple of episodes, I liked that they were split into separate groups that each had a piece of the puzzle and were following their own leads, but they should have all come together sooner, I think, even if they split off again. Mike and El's awkwardness felt real, but I'm not good with awkwardness, so I didn't really appreciate it. I did like the all the 80s movies allusions. Oh man, some of that eighties fashion (I remember it, but I can't say I liked it even then). It seemed like they really upped the violence and that was a little hard to watch. Not a huge fan of all the sweaty, dirty, hurt, and/or gross visuals of all the characters, I would have liked a little less of that. Hopper was so over-the-top overbearing and thuggish that for a while I thought maybe he was infected or something, but no. He only had a few moments of okay. I liked Max and El's friendship. I was a little heartbroken for Will and totally understood what he felt, but he had to get over it pretty fast there. The monster was pretty damn creepy. Given Billy's ending, I feel like he should have gotten a little more screen time, maybe at the beginning, fighting the Flayer. I mostly liked Joyce, but I wouldn't have had her make that date - I understand why they did it, but God, Hopper was being such a douche for most of the season. Murray was okay sometimes and damn annoying others. I liked Alexei and I kind of liked the whole secret Russian base plot.
