Second, consider that maybe some of your assumptions about the nature of new and fans and the stereotypes you associate with them might not be entirely correct, and there might be older fans who disagree with your assumptions and preferences

Tbh i just left social networking sites a while back and just talk to my friends over messaging apps about our mutual interests. I’ve enjoyed fandom a lot more that way. If you’re able to fo that too I’d suggest trying it out. With my free time I’ve been able to make more fandom stuff too!

Don't worry.

I don't delve much in fandom these days, but the reactions I've been seeing have been people becoming more interested in anime and people being angry at them changing Kaworu's "I love you" to Shinji.

Also pointing out Evangelion is "problematic" is probably the funniest thing I would hear in a while. Like no shit, Sherlock.

The thing that creeps me out about the Eva fandom now that I'm an old fogey is seeing grown men and women fap to/have waifu wars over 14 year old kids.

I totally get where you're coming from OP. I think it's hard to see old fandoms we used to enjoy rebooted and exposed to wank. While want has always existed, it does seem much more vitriolic these days.
