I just don't want his (Shyamalan) Apple TV+ or whatever the fuck they're calling it to be totally abysmal bc an actor I LOVE is going to be in it.

I think The Sixth Sense is legitimately better than some of Shyamalan’s later work, in ways that go beyond “we hadn’t seen it before.” It’s still watchable if you know the twist, which is better than later Shyamalan.

I think Whedon’s got a lot of weaknesses as a writer that people overlook because they like it when he’s snarky. See also: Jim Butcher.

Then there's his textbook basic trope-twisting, his color-by-numbers approach to conflict and increasing the stakes, and his tendency to write grown ass adults like they're the smart ass children from a 90s movie in desperate need of a time out.

But yes, the waif-fu stuff has grown pretty stale too. It sucks because once upon a time I loved his shows. The problem is he hasn't evolved or grown any since.

I mean, you're absolutely right. It's not even just those two. Most of the big names have a formula. Some of them are harder to notice, which is maybe why they get less flack?

My issue is always "okay so?" (And i don't mean that antagonistically.) Some people don't like their work. Totally cool. I do. Not all of their stuff jiggles my wiggles but I don't wanna get shit on for liking Signs, and the internet has a hard time living and letting live.

1. "Jiggles my wiggles" is making me crack up at work.
2. Did you like "Signs?" If so, hello from the one other person on the Internet who liked "Signs."
