Well, you got one of your wishes. I agree with your second point. But mostly because of Jonathan.

Yeah, Jonathan's just kind of...there.

Looking like a even more coked out Norman Reedus.

Didn't the actor legit get in trouble for drugs last season? I thought there was some controversy, like will he be asked to return for the next season or not type drama.

Yeah. Tried to fly to US but they found like coke residue in his bag. So they sent him back to wherever he is from.

I've honestly been pretty meh on Nancy and super-meh on Jonathan up until this season where I quite liked her arc. Still meh on Jonathan though.

The more I hear about Season 3, the more I think I shouldn't watch Season 2, let alone 3.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed season 3 tbh. I just finished watching it yesterday, but all the complaints I'd seen about it beforehand seemed overexaggerated when I watched it.

I really like Will and I'd love to see more of him, but only if he gets to be more active and do things by choice, rather than basically having his part in the story forced onto him.

I loved Nancy and Johnathan in S1, so I'm not really prepared to say I want to see less of them, but I definitely don't feel like their characters have been particularly well used since S1, so I don't totally disagree with OP either.

Overall I think one of the show's biggest weaknesses, since S1 ended, has been an inability to build on and deepen the characters they established in S1. Because I feel like they established some really great characters in S1, but then they just kind of stopped building that side of the story, and went entirely into "Ok so what crazy shit's gonna happen this season?!" mode. So we've basically just had two season where the characters are all slowly getting more muddled and less compelling -- vehicles for the plot rather than what's driving the plot.

Eh, there's giving Will a break From All That Weird Shit, and then there's having him be THERE but functionally just there to get goosebumps and say the Mindflayer is there.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
spoilers

I'd have agreed with giving Will a break, because he's been through so much shit season 1 and season 2. But he got a backseat in s3 and the series suffered for it, because he's honestly the most compelling kid at this point (including over Eleven, tbh) and the show is less interesting without him in a lead role.

I like Nancy fine, it's just that the "adult"/"big kid" storylines are so dull compared to the others. Fuuuck I hated how the 80's fashion destroyed such a beautiful young woman though, that hair will haunt me in my sleep.

I really wanted to see Eleven and Will finally hanging out together, but alas.

I really enjoyed Season 3 but Jonathan and Nancy were not my favorite part. I wouldn't mind seeing less of them either to be honest. I liked her with Steve actually, though that ship has sunk long long ago.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
x10 for all of this, seriously.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
nancy went from being one of my favorites to near unbearable in recent seasons and 90% of her scenes being with jonathan has a lot to do with why. #killjonathanbyers2k19
