Not gonna lie, I'm guessing this is actually an economic trend. McDiversity. If they cause controversy or make a shit film, they get free publicity, and get to call critics racists or misogynists, regardless of their actual reasons for disliking the works themselves.

Nevermind if the story or work itself is actually good or bad, I see a lot of companies making a point that they're *diverse*, while either rehashing or making a shit story, making the entire point about diversity moot.

The problem with it, is that as soon as it stops becoming lucrative, they will toss all pretense of diversity out the window.

Even so, I still wish Halle Bailey all the best. Regardless of why she was cast, she'll have Disney on her resume now. That's a huge accomplishment for anyone. She can use that to live a lucrative life. For what it's worth, Disney has a good track record for hiring real talent, so it's not as if her being casted is entirely arbitrary. If the movie does well it'll be like graduating from an Ivy League school. It's having a generally credible, trusted place vouch for you. She could potentially take that opportunity and run with it, and maybe she'll become a legend of her own. One can hope.
