The main complaints I saw for Captain Marvel(and Wonder Woman) were from sexist men whining about it being a superhero film with a female lead, and not this weird argument that 'you can't like it because this decision isn't genuine' that's cropping up in this case, and with Mulan, and in the past with Black Panther.

If they did and I missed it then hey I'm wrong, but it's still a boggling argument to make because every decision made by a large business is done in order to make money. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy what they produce.

My actual worry with Captain Marvel is that it is military propaganda disguised as feminism:

This sort of stuff has the ability to brainwash people into joining a military that will screw them over, especially women, glorify a military which operates under highly murky politics and procedures, and silence films that dare criticize the military by denying them funds.

Wait what.

So... are the Captain America films military propaganda too?

False equivalence. The Captain America films are a criticism of current government politics.

The problem with any film that's funded by any party, is that it will also reflect their interests. Same as political parties being funded by 'private donors'. Captain Marvel is not the only film that's done it. Independence Day 2, Battle: Los Angeles, American Sniper. The list is massive.

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that someone would watch Captain Marvel and walk out of it thinking, "MAN! That makes me want to join the military!"

NAYRT—not just you. Some of the other MCU films, maybe, but not this one

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT--Like yeah, CA: First Avenger I could definitely see them making a case for, but Captain Marvel seems a weird choice.

They literally did videos with the Air Force promoting them.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
How would I know this?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm telling you now.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, it just came across (to me) like, "Uh duh, they made NAVY VIDEOS!" Sorry!
