Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Honestly wasn't expecting it to be good. I went in it for Karen. But I genuinely enjoyed it and thought it was good.

Same here! I was especially impressed by Jack Black's performance.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I still hate the first Captain America and wasn't a far of him in The Avengers. But that movie made me into a believer.

I only saw it because I was stuck in another town for work for an extended period of time and had nothing to do. I hadn't seen the first CA movie and was meh on Cap in Avengers, but I was seriously impressed by Winter Soldier!

Moulin Rouge. I was barely aware of it when my mom invited me to go with her. I had no idea it was a musical or full of magical realism or any if that. I had a blast.

Tomorrowland. I just went because Hugh Laurie and I wound up loving it. I expected it to be meh because I usually don't like Disney or kids' movies in general.

Honestly? Twilight. The first one. It's a huge guilty pleasure of mine. Probably largely because of Catherine Hardwick's directing; her style pulls me in every time. I do really hate that one scene where it feels like they tried to jam pack all the most cringey, cliched parts of the book into three minutes - the "edward sparkles & bella is his own personal brand of heroin" scene. But beyond that one scene, I like the movie.

Push was a bit of a hot mess, but it was still pretty good, and I definitely didn't expect it to be.

Also, for some reason I thought Sherlock Holmes (2009) was going to be atrocious, and then it turned out to be really delightful. (Wasn't a fan of the second one, though.)

Take Shelter (the Jeff Nichols / Jessica Chastain / Michael Shannon movie). I knew literally nothing about it going in, and it completely blew me away. Just an incredible movie with unbelievable performances.

I will say Michael Shannon's acting in it was excellent (he was so great in Boardwalk Empire too!)

High School Musical 3. I only went because my kid insisted, and I expected to be praying for it to be over, and it actually was really fun. I don't know if I "loved" it and I didn't go watch the other two, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

The Dark Knight. i knew nothing about it going in and thought i'd be bored. the cell phone stuff was a little silly but i enjoyed the movie overall. had no idea who Heath Ledger was or that he had died until after.

I had pretty low expectations of the Power Rangers movie (the 2017 one), but genuinely enjoyed it. I thought the cast was pretty great and liked the cheesy bits.

Agreed. I mostly only saw it out of nostalgia and was fully ready for it to suck, but I ended up being really surprised by how much I liked it.

Deadpool. I wanted to like it but I was afraid the humour would fall flat with me, that I'd find the violence and sexual content forced and pointless... and nope. It worked. Loved it and laughed my ass off.

Pacific Rim. I didn’t know anything, I had won a ticket so figured why not? Fell. In. Love!
