Is lion king conservative?

I mean, yeah, obviously. It's a Disney animated movie so I don't think you necessarily have to focus on it as a political message, but to the extent that you do, it's obviously very conservative.

This just in, lions are conservative! Are they fiscally conservative as well?

Does this person not know that A) TLK is basically Hamlet B) Real lions actually do have pride leaders, fights for power, and poor leaders.

Re: Is lion king conservative?

>>The Lion King is, you’ll recall, the tale of a band of ugly ingrates and malcontents whose class resentment causes them to upend the social order at the urging of a hateful, self-serving demagogue. Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor) seizes power like Lenin, via murder and treachery, and seeks to maintain it by making redistributionist noises to sucker the poor. He calls for a “coup,” then declares, “From now on, the hyenas eat first.” This is where Bill de Blasio, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leap to their feet and cheer. Bad news, comrades: Scar is as worthy of your admiration as most of your other heroes. Later he lets slip that he despises the hyena-proletarian class that is his political base, and plans a bit of mass murder, like most other regicidal revolutionaries. The hyenas are not his constituency but simply the weapons with which he achieves power. Not that the their demands should be given undue weight: “A hyena’s belly is never full,” we are told, by way of warning about what happens when you pander to the slavering hordes.

well, it revolves completely around male lions even though IRL it's female lions who do all the hunting, and I'm not even going to get into why the first scene has elephants kissing a lion's ass when an elephant can kill a lion with one good stomp or swat.

Adults acting like teenagers

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-07-12 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Why is it that some adults feel the need to act like teenage bullies?

My mother and I watch Judge Judy together. I have issues with Judy, but it is something we can watch together. One of the episodes yesterday featured this woman who is a reporter who reports on horses and horse racing. She's won a bunch of awards. And for some reason this blogger has decided she hates her and has targeted her with some vicious defamation. The episode made it sound like typical defamation. Judy awarded the reporter 5000, which rarely happened.

So I did some googling because I was curious to know more about the case. And the blogger is still at it. And it isn't just defamation. She's acting like a child. She calls the reporter childish names, mocks her for everything she does, and has a gang of commenters who back her up just like a teenage bully gang. It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen, honestly. It really reads exactly like a high school bully except I saw this woman on TV and she's a normal adult woman who acts like a business woman and who supposedly cares about horses and runs a non-profit and functions normally in society. What the hell?

Did the reporter lady do a story that portrayed the charity in a bad light or something?

Re: Adults acting like teenagers

Because adults are usually just overgrown teenagers.

It's weird and frightening, but sometimes people can be relatively functional in some ways (i.e. holding down jobs and maintaining relationships) and absolutely batshit in other ways. The internet makes it easier for such people to hold forth on their delusions and find other gullible or unstable people to cheer them on, which just enforces their sense of being right.

Sorta curious why the woman doesn't sue her in actual court instead of TV court.

adulthood and psychological maturity are not synonymous

Re: Adults acting like teenagers

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
i mean just look at fandom: some of the most immature and horrible behavior i've ever seen has come from ppl who are well into their 30's.

being an adult doesn't grantee maturity and some ppl just never grow up.

Well, we have an adult toddler in the White House so adults acting like teenagers doesn't really surprise me.

Off the top of my head? Gwen from Torchwood. I'm sure there's more, but she is a lasting hatred.

Joffrey and Ramsey on GoT.
That bald fuck on Supernatural. He was Dean and Sam's grandpa, I think?
Negan on TWD, or the reason I stopped watching.

KATARA.

I loved Avatar, but when I think about rewatching it I always think twice because of her.

Ross Geller. Just, everything. Everything about him. I will give a nod to the fact that David Schwimmer's physical comedy skills were top tier. But that is probably the only nice thing I will ever say that relates to Ross.

Dawson Leery. I didn't entirely hate him, but he tended to annoy me, and after the way he acted when he found out about Pacey and Joey, I could never really like him again.

I kind of hated Leslie Knope in S1 of Parks & Rec. But then the writers figured their shit out and she became kind of awesome? Still a little annoying sometimes, but also really admirable and good? Also, we were maybe supposed to dislike Leslie in S1, because I think she was supposed to be like the female Michael Scott?

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

What is your favourite cookie recipe? I'm going up to my 'rents on Saturday and since my father doesn't want any actual gifts for his birthday, I figured I'd make cookies.
