Sometimes we never completely figure out why we're drawn to certain things, OP.

I personally believe that fantasies can tell us what we need to become whole. Given that, only you are going to figure out what these particular fantasies are saying to you, OP -- but I will say that as someone who had similar fantasies for a long time, I came to realize that (as odd as it sounds) they gave me a way to see myself as strong and of value to the world.

Same, tbqh. This is very well put, btw.

What Anon said. And said very well, I think.

I do the same. And I don’t have any particular trauma to work through. It used to worry me I was drawn to things like that, but I figured out that as it doesn’t spill over IRL- I don’t have relationship with abusers, for example, it’s just something my mental make-up need, and indulge myself.

Anon above said it very well, I think!

Also seconding what anon said.

From my own personal experience, I find powerful catharsis in stories featuring certain darker elements. If I'm very very low then reading stories where the hero suffers those themes and then ultimately triumphs is powerful to me.

fantasies are a way to take control of our trauma, is something i heard once.

i have a trauma that is also a major kink of mine, go figure. when i explain it it's basically like that - whether it triggers me entirely hinges on whether im in control of the situation or conversation.
