It's really interesting to talk to someone else with this experience. I can't think of a film off the top of my head where the younger sibling is the "antagonist" or whatever. Everyone in storytelling seems to default to the elder sibling is the popular perfect one who makes the younger feel like crap.

I was in the same situation - my younger (by four years) brother was emotionally, verbally and physically abusive towards me. He was very obviously my mother's favourite, especially when I would tell her about the things he'd said or done and she would reply "You're an adult, YOU deal with it." When I tried telling my father, it was "Stop telling me this, you're making ME depressed."

My brother would say the cruelest, most vicious and spiteful things he could think of, up to and including me to commit suicide because "nobody would ever care about [me] and [I] should just get it over with already". He would also rip apart my physical appearance, calling me a "fat, ugly and greasy bitch", and as a result I have been left with anxiety and depression, as well as scars on my arms from his nails.

Funnily enough, he would then go on to have what was essentially a psychotic break, starting by verbally abusing my mother and telling her he "couldn't wait until [she] was dead and out of [his] life", and wound up arrested and found guilty for assaulting an ex-girlfriend (he was found guilty but got a full discharge).

When my mother started going "Oh, where did this rage against women come from?", people (including relatives) informed her that they had heard him threatening me with physical violence if I didn't do what he wanted (he was a fair bit taller and more muscular than I). She replied "Oh, if it was that bad, people would have told me about it!"

I was just like... REALLY?!

I'm sorry to read you went through all that anon. I hope you're in a better place now. I also hope that you managed to get away from your brother's influence. Sometimes blood or a shared family history just isn't enough.
