Click if you're on the fence about the movie

So while there IS angsting over Tony, there's some talk about how Tony is less...amazing than Peter saw. Ultimately, it's very much about Peter stepping up and filling the gap and coming into his own.

Believe me, I was annoyed with Tony seeping into a lot of the other movies. But this is really good and plays out well. Granted, I did like Stark's arc in Endgame, so playing on it is gonna appeal to me a bit. But if you're a Spider-man film this is a VERY good Spider-man movie. And the kids' antics are cute.

I don't know about this, instead of feeling like Peter stepping up to fill the gap, it felt like they were forcing Peter into the role and it was working for some reason. Mostly though, I think a lot of the movie just didn't work for me, Tony-related or no. (I didn't even think about Tony that much during the movie, just about how the movie isn't working for me.)

And it felt like the opposite of a Spider-man movie for me. No New York, which wasn't a big deal until I realized how much they were avoiding it; no backyard fights, which was weird because that's what I remember Spider-man most by. Too much spectacle, no hand to hand combat, too much bombs and technology. It was a Marvel movie, but it wasn't a Spider-man movie.

My problem, though, is that I don't think Spiderman /should/ be filling a gap left by Iron Man. I felt like HC showed him stepping up and becoming his own person and his own hero just fine. Why should he need to do that again to fill someone else's shoes?
