Agreed. It feels way too typecast "shounen" to me and it completely lacked the charm and emotional impact of the original anime, like you said. The whole Nina and Alexander thing in the original anime fucked me up, but in Brotherhood, I felt absolutely nothing when it happened. I couldn't get more than ten episodes in without getting bored because I wasn't feeling the same things that I did over the first anime despite it being the exact same series of events.
