Re: Fullmetal Alchemist
It wasn't the manga's fault. I picked it up after having connected intensely with the first anime, and the tonal difference was so big that I lasted a volume and half before putting it away. I've heard almost only good things about it, and I don't doubt that it's a great comic. But the first FMA anime means too much to me, on some dumb, personal plane, for me to try and bend my brain around a different version of that story.
FWIW (fandom being fandom), I've seen people comparing the two and coming out of it preferring 2003. The lacking drama and character development in Brotherhood is indeed an argument that pops up a lot.
