Well as long as ur not plastering it about everywhere or showing up. Just a brain exercise you didn’t expect to succeed in!

I'm sorry I couldn't even finish reading the first sentence. That's just too stalkery for me no matter what you think justifies it.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-15 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it stalkery to just... have information but literally do nothing with it?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
if you finished the sentence/secret you might think twice about that.

I figured out my crush's address years ago, never did anything with the info or told anyone what it was. I don't feel guilty but I did feel kind of like I was one of THOSE fans...

I feel for you OP. More than once in my life I’ve thought “I wonder if I could....” and been horrified with myself that in fact yes I CAN.

My brain needs to snack down brilliant ideas. Bury the knowledge in your subconscious, it will be fine 😀

That's a handy talent tbh

I haven't figured out an address, but I've been able to figure out a few things re: celebrity crushes and personal info before, so I feel you. Sometimes it's absurdly easy and that's kind of terrifying.

On a less stalkery note, I have a keen instinct of figuring out when a celebrity couple (even minor celebrity) has broken up, literally months before they make an announcement.

It's a) pretty cool you were able to do that
b) pretty scary that you were able to do that, because basically nobody stands a chance of privacy, really
c) not something you intend to 'cash in on' in any way, so....eh.

Guilt isn't necessary. Treat it more as your warm wee secret you cuddle close and never let anyone know you know (who would know), and be a wee big smug about how clever you are.

Better than angst. :D

If you were planning to go to their home, that would be creepy. If you were planning to announce their address to others that would be shitty. But you're not planning to do those things, so I honestly don't find this creepy or stalkery at all.

I once saw a photo on tumblr of my favorite celebrity that was clearly taken on his "down time" and possibly even without him knowing, and I felt bad, even though I wasn't the one who took it and I didn't even reblog it. And for all I know he was thinking to himself "Great, they're taking a picture of me, oh well."

As long as you don't do anything with the information it seems harmless to me too though.

I sometimes look my celebrity crushes up in a people search, just to see if they're crazy enough to put their real name on property/phone numbers, etc. There's a shocking number of people I've found that way. I don't do anything with the info, and I don't share it, but it's publicly accessible information. Fascinating what a simple search will show you sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've done this (and would never GO there or anything.) I've never posted the info, either.

Celebrity crush has done streaming videos in their house and I've seen the house plan from the sales listing, so that's even creepier.

But many celebrities have their houses in AD or on the LONNY website or some shit anyway.

I hope they do have good alarm systems, and I'm pretty certain that they probably do. I'd be more worried about some non-fan stealing my cool ass furniture that's in a design magazine than a fan.

The amount of information freely available online is terrifying, not to mention the stuff you can get with a bit more digging and the amount of dubious data leaks you can collect without even having hacking skills. If nobody, me has my information plastered online even though almost no one gains from it, celebrities have almost no chance. :\

(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay OP. I was walking past a celebrity's house in a quiet village once when my friend pointed it out. I immediately said extremely loudly: "Holy shit this is X's house?!" riiiight outside their front door. Sigh.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Is it weird that I want to say that I really respect you for this?
Technically, it isn't /that/ hard to track a celebrity by any means, because someone somewhere is bound to reveal something(?). You might have used this little exercise to get in close with someone you admire, but by god, at least you respect their boundaries. I'd say it isn't much different from writing a fan letter you never intend to send, just with some extra-curricular involved. That fact you found this out and still want to retain their privacy is pretty admiral, imo. It actually makes me smile.

(hell, it makes me respect your privacy as well, because fuck if I wouldn't have tried to search up your location, (like the busybody I am), if you weren't so perfectly gracious about all this.)

A friend and I figured out the address of our then-crush once and spent a little time trudging through "his" street in hopes of god knows what. Somehow being close to him? For the feeling of treading where he usually does? Something like that. It felt really stalkery (and it was!) and made me realize I really really don't want to meet crushes under those circumstances. Even stage-dooring has become squicky for me now though I never did a lot of it. Watching them on stage, if the chance arises? Yes please! Trying to meet them in person - no, not anymore, thank you. I had one chance meeting that was lovely (at a stage door, waiting for somebody else). I still cherish the memory. The rest? I felt like a complete idiot.

I live in hope of working up the courage of meeting a few actors from a series I love at a convention to get autographs, which is obviously fair game if I stick to the rules. But I would still feel like a stalker. Weird.

I did the same for two celebs, and yeah, it took me about 5 minutes. No mad skills on my account, just some assorted clues about general area of search, a few pictures (non-pap, provided openly in official medias) and five minutes in Google maps. I don't intend to use any of it, I live half a world away from them anyway, I was just curious if I can find their addresses (it was prompted by a 'find this place' comm where people supply street photos from around the world and everyone is welcome to find where the pics were taken) and I did not expect how scarily easy it turned out to be. I did not expect I would be able to do it all, in fact. Kind of unnerving how not private our lives became. :/
