They knew what they were getting when they hired Taika. But also, he is charming af and I'm pretty sure he just convinced them to let him have his way. I've heard stories about him simply leaving ridiculously hilarious VMs in response to Marvel's phone calls when he went over budget, stuff like that.

Oh, also, Taika himself said in an interview that they picked pretty inaccessible locations for filming so that Marvel execs wouldn't come down and bug them. But I think that might have been a dig at Australia.

How did they go over budget? The movie looks like shit.
