(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 09:06 am (UTC)(link)It honestly does suck that Taika Waititi had to be so unprofessional about the whole thing. I think that has become the biggest target on Ragnarok's back as a whole, but the film itself was great. Not exactly typical, but Taika in nature, which is why they allowed him to direct it. He's popular, he's unique, and not to mention not white... Always a plus for big budget films apparently...
I don't know what Ant-Man would have been, but it wasn't established enough to take the risk. Especially if that risk took the film in a way which Marvel would have no choice but to comply with. Ant-Man isn't the first, second, or even third, Avenger you think of. I don't doubt the movie would have been great, but Marvel probably didn't want another hero fighting for the spotlight when they already had half a dozen they didn't know what to do with. From the way they advertised it, I always saw the Ant-Man movies as more of an extra card Marvel threw out just because they could, just because they knew people would pay to see it. If not for the movie itself, but because it was part of the MCU... So trying something unique with it wasn't what they had in mind at all.
