Re: Opinions you don't often share

People who annoy me: those who go "I will NEVER understand why..." in response to some kind of human behavior/reaction, especially in situations involving victims of abuse or self-destructive behavior.

Similarly, people who are adamant they would never do some stupid thing and condemn whoever did it. For the record, I'm not objecting to them expressing shock or fear. It just seems like they're more interested in announcing to the world what amazing saints they are and judging the shit out of anyone they perceive to not be, than... I dunno... taking the time to understand why people do crazy shit or why crazy shit can happen even to the most responsible person.

Agreed. Everyone acts like to be perfect is the default setting for people and that mistakes and flaws immediately condemn you. It's a pretty terrifying atmosphere.

But the problem is that too often people don't actually act like people who believe they've made a mistake. People act like you just have to say "PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES" and that's the end of it. Whatever you did doesn't go away just because you say that people make mistakes. That's not how it works, either. Apologize, acknowledge the mistake, admit it, try to make restitution. Don't go full-on calling people criticizing you a witch hunt.
