Is "hir" pronounced differently enough from "her" that people notice?

"Ze put hir bag over there" sounds more like somebody trying to badly fake a bad German accent while speaking about a woman. Isn't "they" more distinctly nb?

That's how I "hear" it in my head, too... as a bad German accent.
