I loved the "Betsy-Tacy" series, but I wish I hadn't read the last book. Betsy gets married and goes completely domestic. After all her dreams and work at writing stories, it's her husband getting published while Betsy plays the house-wife. She straight up says that being a housewife is the most important thing to her. It was disappointing after all the adventures in the previous books.

The friendship between the girls pretty much boils down to Betsy and Tacy throwing Tib at every eligible bachelor they see. Like all they care about is her getting married even though she's happy with her job and single life. The happy ending is that Tib finds some random guy, literally in the last few pages, and there's a wedding.

I know it was written in the fifties so I shouldn't have expected it to be progressive but I'm still annoyed.

I loved that series. As the characters got to be teenagers, though, I remember feeling like I was reading a different series about different people, because I was young and just didn't identify with teenagers or young adults yet. The thing about wanting to be a housewife most flew over my head.

I like Lois Lenski's illustrations for the first two books. :)
