Writing Help - Conflict
(Anonymous) 2019-07-31 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)Fellow writers (be it fanfic or origfic) please share me your conflict-creation secrets?
Also, 'kill someone' will not work in this particular story, but might in others, but I'm not a fan of willy nilly killing to move things along.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)* man vs. man
* man vs. his environment
* man vs. himself
If you know your characters and their personalities inside and out (and I feel like a lot of authors fail at this) then you have some idea of what sort of situation would serve as a catalyst for conflict. Then you have to figure out a credible way to create that situation.
There'a also your overall plot to consider. I assume you have one in mind... and you can't have a decent plot without conflict, so how is the character involved?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-01 07:40 am (UTC)(link)(also I wouldn't recommend killing people off, as it's not a very good plot device, imo.)
Re: Writing Help - Conflict
(Anonymous) 2019-07-31 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)Where do you want the story to go? What should be the end result of the conflict?
Then, what conflict would get you there?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-01 12:40 am (UTC)(link)That said, if you're writing original fic, yeah, you need conflict, and I'm not helping.

Re: Writing Help - Conflict
(Anonymous) 2019-08-01 07:47 am (UTC)(link)The advice above is all solid. I would start by asking yourself where you want the story to go.
The only extra advice I can offer is that conflict should seem organic to the story, otherwise it's jarring.
