Advice for a first-time Yuletider
(Anonymous) 2019-07-31 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)Any explanations, advice, links, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Advice for a first-time Yuletider
yuletide.dreamwidth.org - unofficial DW page which is helpful with how to write a letter and where to link it. You technically don't even have to have a letter. I put mine on DW but you can put it anywhere you like.
There aren't really "must haves" except that the fic has to be about the characters requested, but letters will usually give likes/dislikes and possibilities to help inspire the writer. (Those are the "optional details.") You are allowed to have "Do Not Wants" that the writer is not allowed to put in the fic. You may want to put those in the actual sign-up as technically the writer doesn't have to read your letter. That's probably not going to happen, but I do it every year just in case.
I've done this every year for something like ten years and it's usually pretty fun. However do keep in mind that you may not get fic or be assigned to write fic for the particular fandom you want to nominate, so try to think of other small fandoms you might like. (Sorry if that sounds patronizing...)
I hope this helps! Those two communities should tell you pretty much everything you need to know. Nominations aren't until October 2 - October 10 so you have a while.

Nah, it's good information to know. Although in this case, I WAS aware of that and have already prepped the first drafts my Yuletide letter with three fandoms, including the one I mentioned in the thread starter. And depending on what gets nominated, I may be able to ask for/offer more.
So the noms don't start until October? Huh, I thought it was in August/September. Ah well, more time to try to figure this stuff out.
Thanks again!
