I've always seen Xavier as the central character and seen X-Men as representing hope. Even in the midst of persecution and prejudice, there is hope for a better future. There is a way out, and there is a future where acceptance will exist and where Xavier's vision will come to fruition. Days of Future Past was more of a perfect ending to the X-Men for me.
