My mom is super bad with that. One time we got in a conversation about it with a cousin of mine, and my mom could not comprehend why they were uncomfortable with hugs. It was on a holiday so we were drinking, and at one point my mom started crying, it was a whole mess. She took it as them not liking/being able to stand her, and it was just in her personality to be affectionate, they were family/she'd never do anything to hurt someone... (she did not see the hypocrisy of it all)
