Yeah this. I don't know what ayrt is expecting. That the people they're talking to go "Oh yeah, you're a total fatass" to their face?

DA - I at least partially agree with you and AYRT, but I don't think this^ is fair. I think what OP would like would be for the person they're talking to to say nothing about their weight, and instead respond to the rest of what they said.

If the entire thrust of their comment is "I'm fat," then I agree with you. How is anyone supposed to respond to that? But I think more often someone will bring up their own weight as a qualifying factor in another point they're making. In which case, I think what OP is suggesting is that people respond to the greater point without getting stuck on their assertion of their weight.

I still do mostly agree with you that people tend to feel they have to refute whatever negative statements other people make about themselves or they're being rude. I'm just saying it's not like the only two options in this scenario are "you're not fat" or "Yeah, you're a fatass." There are other options.
