I just want to see the racebent characters keep the red hair. Is that so much to ask? Most of the redheads in film are wigs/dyed anyways. And especially in the case of a mythical creature (mermaid) you can't really say "this can't happen."

Right? My first thought when I heard about the Ariel casting was "I really hope they keep the red hair." Obviously in this case it would be a wig because I don't expect her to completely destroy her actual hair for a movie, but as long as the wig is well done, I couldn't care less.
