As a redhead I agree, tbh. It sucked growing up and having so few characters in media who looked like me when my blond and brunette friends couldn't throw a stone without finding at least five characters who looked like them. Ariel was a big deal to kid me because of that - at last, here was a princess who looked like me! So yeah, I'm gonna be salty about this because Ariel having red hair was something that was really important to me when I was younger and just wanted to have a character I could dress up as for Halloween.

you still have the original????? I didn't know they're going back and swapping her in the cartoon as well.

You should have read comic books. Every other character is a redhead. Or watched TV. Redheads have been pretty realistically represented there too pretty much since the days of I Love Lucy.

And there aren't any black people in those medias without the new Ariel?

You had hair the same color as a red crayon? Were you also a mermaid?

You may have not had princesses with the same hair color as you but plenty with the same skin color. You are an adult now. Grow up and let young black girls have some representation too.

So there aren't any young redheads anymore?

There are several blonde or dark-haired disney princesses they could make black without taking away one of the only redheaded ones.

ayrt - Yes, of course there are young redheads. I was responding specifically to this anon person saying they don't want Ariel to not have red hair because it meant a lot to them when they were a kid--well, they are not a kid anymore, so what's their excuse?

This is a remake. It will not 'take away' the original. Just how any of the other redheaded characters who have been changed to black characters without red hair have not taken away the originals.

To use your own logic - they have Tiana so what are they complaining about?
