hit-counters on fanfic sites are an absolutely stupid idea and should never have been implemented. no one should know how many times their fic has been visited, especially because those counters are not indicative of a seperate individual with each number. it's useless data that only serves to increase or cause insecurity in fanfic writers.

... not to mention that the numbers aren't necessarily accurate of reader participation/interest. A determined author can buy clicks. (I've seen fics with over 30,000 hits and NO comments or kudos, which I find highly suspicious.)

I like the way FFnet handles it: only the author sees hits.
