Vulture had a great review that for me, at least, articulated more of this show’s problems well:

I think they wanted the space crew be mostly young and all hot but also thought “well, this needs to be more realistic for today’s audiences”. But instead of writing it into the plot (“for some reason, only people under 30 can sense something game-changing about the aliens”) and/or having them make unseasoned but on-paper reasonable decisions - which might have potential - they just made everyone make terrible choices all around and then be shocked by the consequences.
