I hear ya, OP.

There are so many reasons people become addicts. Often it starts out as self-medicating an untreated mental health issue. Or as taking pain pills for a real pain issue with prescribed medication that then the person becomes hooked. Or any of a host of other reasons. OP, you come across as really judgy. I get that it is hard when you are a family member of an addict. But you don't know the life story of every addict. Addiction is considered a disease for a reason.

Not OP

Listen. Don't go there. You have no idea what tree you're barking up right now. You yourself are being "judgy" and ignorant in this comment. You think addicts are the only people who have it hard? How about the people who live with them?

It's always the people who have to put up with addicts directly that are forgotten. Never mind what mental, emotional, and physical abuse we might be on the receiving end of. Never mind how much of our money and possessions get stolen. Never mind having to break up fights. Never mind having to bail a fucker out of jail. Never mind having to clean up after them. Never mind watching someone you love deteriorate before your eyes and refuse treatment. Never mind fearing that fateful phone call that their self-destructive behavior finally lead to their death. Never fucking mind those who who live with the addicts. Oh, it's "hard", but we're not the one with a "disease" so the hell with us.

Feel free to take your nose out of the psychology textbook and join the human world at anytime. No one should have to experience the trauma and humiliation of living with an addict. You don't get it at all.

You're assuming you're the only one with addicts in your family. My brother in law is an alcoholic. He self treats his mental illness because they haven't found the right medicines and the right diagnosis yet. Alcohol makes him feel better. You aren't the only one with real life experiences. Don't just assume that you're views are the only valid ones.

I couldn't stand season 2 of Jessica Jones. It was such a let down from how jaw-dropping amazing season 1 was, so I went into season 3 hopeful but not excited. Then season 3 made enduring the second season worth it. Totally, understand your feelings OP.
