There's obviously differences, they just don't really matter to me or seem like a big deal. Both just look like human-cat hybrids. The ones from the movies don't give me any reaction beyond, "Huh, okay, that's interesting," so the emotional reaction is pretty much the same for both versions. The CGI version is a bit more on the uncanny side, but not to a point where I'm ruffled by it.

I'm annoyed by it because it's just another example of Hollywood not caring about producing decent movie adaptations fo stage musicals. They always butcher them. This is no exception.

It's also annoying that, yet again, despite their insanely large budgets, they opted for cheap, terrible looking CGI instead of investing in actual costumes. It's lazy and inspires no confidence that the movie itself will be a decent adaptation.

But those are costumes with some CGI fur overlaid and the seams cleaned up.

If they were actual, decent costumes, they wouldn't need "CGI fur overlaid" in the first place, and Taylor Swift wouldn't look like Spiderus from Miss Spider's Sunny Patch. A decent costume designed for film and made with actual quality would be able to stand on their own.

Might as well call motion capture body suits a costume.
