I would love to see the actual conversation, because I would never tell a victim to fuck off, but if they told me that I should stop reading or writing something because of their own experience with it, I would politely tell them to stop reading my fic/ stop policing what I do, in spite of my deep sympathies for their situation.
Fiction is not reality and doesn't influence people who understand this difference. All fiction is created with this idea in mind and the correct way is to teach children to think critically about fictional content they consume and not sanitize and censor fiction, especially since there is no way to agree on where to draw the line. Even people in fandom who are pro censorship tend to make exceptions for fucked up content they personally enjoy.
