not OP but the only reason I know is that not all previous gen Pokemon will be available to trade into the game, so some Pokemon people have had for YEARS traded from game to game won't be able to join them for this gen

and they have a point (you have 1000 Pokemon now, Game Freak, you saw this coming) and Game Freak didn't handle the upset outcry well, but IMO it's not a reason to write off the whole game

but that's me!

+1

The setting of the United Kingdom attracts me a lot, and the fact it'll allow new players to join in to get "all" the pokemon was actually the bonus for me, but friends of mine vowed not to buy the game because of that. Because pokemon "is about catching them all."

While I could understand fan anger in wanting to keep all of the pokemon they have gained throughout their lives, I also fear this would both be a way of gatekeeping to newbies, and it'd be hell on the developers to create animations and balance for every single pokemon.

I read there were supposedly other pieces of controversy, re-used assets or something, but don't take my word for gospel.

It's also that it just... I'm tired of playing the exact same plot over and over and over. I guarantee you it's going to be, "Help Legendary of the specific game stop the Evil Team that's trying to use them to take over/destroy the world while being a ten-year-old who is going for their gym badges." I'm tired of the gym system to artificially gate content, I'm tired of the same plot we've had going back to at least B&W, and TBH GameFreak is testing how little they have to do before they make a Pokemon game that people won't buy in large amounts.

My complaints aren't just the National Dex, but also that they removed actually interesting things like Megas and Z-Moves for... "The same Pokemon but BIGGER." Two of the revealed "new" mons are just reskinned old mons (Alcreamie is basically Slurpuff, Duraludon is literally Steel Bipedal Gigalith). Things like that.

Complaining about the plot of a Pokemon game is weird though TBH. Nobody has ever expected a different plot, the plot is just an excuse to collect and battle as many Pokemon as you can. It's been that way for the entire run, why would this game suddenly be worse than all the other games before it for sticking with the status quo?

It's a complaint I and a lot of people have had for awhile about how it's literally the exact same game with a new shade of paint. And it's especially exasperating after XY where the message was "BUT YOU TOTES DON'T HAVE TO BE A TRAINER WHO GOES AFTER BADGES, LOOK AT YOUR FRIENDS" while... You're forced into being Champion...

Listen, maybe I just want to go on adventures with my best friend mon or three and not worry about collecting badges???

late reply, but I think it would be cool if the Pokemon games had some kind of... well, maybe not a mainline game, but a side game where all sorts of pokemon careers are open to you. Kind of like a Pokemon Fantasy Life, if you've ever played that 3DS game.
