The setting of the United Kingdom attracts me a lot, and the fact it'll allow new players to join in to get "all" the pokemon was actually the bonus for me, but friends of mine vowed not to buy the game because of that. Because pokemon "is about catching them all."

While I could understand fan anger in wanting to keep all of the pokemon they have gained throughout their lives, I also fear this would both be a way of gatekeeping to newbies, and it'd be hell on the developers to create animations and balance for every single pokemon.

I read there were supposedly other pieces of controversy, re-used assets or something, but don't take my word for gospel.
