I don't understand this secret. Except for the cape part. I loved how Homelander was like, "You wanted it to be all red (like Superman's) but I told you the stripes would be better!"

Does this show have merits other than schadenfreude about capes? Because that really seems like the main theme of people talking it up

It's a pretty fun deconstruction of superhero nonsense, a fair take on superhero-caused collateral damage and a wry look at modern celebrity culture.

I quite enjoyed it. Can't say I noticed anything special about the cape thing though. Maybe you have to be American to care, I dunno.

took a quick wikia glance at what's it about and... yeah, no.

it's one of those works where everybody's an irredeemable asshole, nothing is worth saving, and the author was an grimderp edgy jackass that barely understood the genre.

After I watched the series, i read the wiki article on the comic, and yikes. The comic was toned down quite a bit for the series and some of the snails converted to oysters)

It's basically just Watchmen, Brightburn, and the Ultimates verse of Avengers, but even edgier. I see people bring up the commentary of rampant corporatism in America as the thing that differentiates it from the former 3, but said commentary is so fucking shallow that it's barely worth noting.

Homelander is an effective villain, but otherwise I couldn't bring myself to care about a single character in this show.

Depends on what portrayal of superpowered humans on tv you enjoy. Power corrupting the heroes is a more interesting concept to me, especially when it's all there in Marvel/DC but never explored to its full potential because at the end of the day the main characters have to be good and save the world.
The corporate aspect of selling superheroes as stars and gods and marketing their success is an interesting aspect, too, even if it is never explored fully in this show, but to be fair, they only had 8 episodes and a lot of things to set up.
Also, the actor playing the character pictured in the secret image is good and elevates the writing in some scenes.
I expected the show to be shit, and was very pleasantly surprised that it was good, in spite of unnecessary violence and the show taking too long to give more spotlight to the female characters.

I'm watching The Boys on Amazon,
and it's brilliant. This is the logical
sequel to Civil War. I hope the supes
get their just desserts.

B!S: Capt. Homeland's
flag cape is a stroke of
of genius.

I just realized that I never kept track of the difference between The Boys and The Authority. I have a vague idea that one is ironically fascist and the other is unironically fascist.

All I know about The Authority is that Midnighter is an expy of Batman, Apollo is an expy of Superman, the two are together and raising a kid.

Oh, and Midnighter once went to hell to bring Apollo back to life?

The Authority is ironically fascist (mostly, Mark Millar does write it for a bit).
