Fanfic writers! Informal poll

I'm curious how many of us are writing fanfic as a hobby, how many are using it for practice for hopefully writing professionally, and how many of us are already writing professionally and write fanfic as well. (Or whatever combination applies to you.)

I started it as a hobby, but would like to write professionally, so I think the fanfic was good practice, even though that wasn't what I was aiming for when I started it.

I'm exclusively in camp hobby, mainly because I'm shit at finishing things and I can only possibly post a 100-500 word story as a complete thing in fandom circles

Unless it's like a screenplay or some shit. Which I'm not planning on doing.

I would theoretically like to write professionally, though I'm a bit old to get started with that. But I don't really consider fanfic writing "practice." Writing original work is different from writing fanfic for me. I don't mean it's intrinsically better or harder, but it's different.

Started out as a hobby, have got some professional publications under my belt, still write fanfic. I just like writing, hard though it is, and I like the community aspect of fanfic.

I write RPGs semi-professionally and I have a novel in progress that I'd like to get published, but there's no rush.

Fic is a different type of writing for me.i can play fast and loose with it and just have fun. I guess it's inadvertently become practice for the other stuff though I never thought about it that way.

Hobbyist here. Never even thought about publishing anything. Hell, I’ve barely even shared my fic; 99% of it never got posted anywhere. I dunno, I just like playing with other peoples’ characters and settings without making up my own.

I write fic as both a hobby and for practice. I'd like to publish a book one day and have written a few stories, but nothing that I feel is good enough to send to agents.

I write fic as a hobby and I write original novels in hopes of getting published. (I have six original novels completed, just needing to be edited but lol guess what part I hate the most...)

I can't write anything original, it always ends up a derivative based off an obvious canon. like, can't even file the serial numbers off obvious, someone will immediately know which canon it's set in.

I've been looking into and seriously researching ghostwriting for some of my major ideas including my big one. Maybe I'm just being stupid by asking but I became worried that people would see hiring a ghostwriter as cheating somehow.
