My dog's the opposite. He's excitable and cheery when we're home, but is kinda fearful when we go for walks. If it's just the two of us walking, he's happy and will try to eat lizards and sniff everything, but if he sees other people or other dogs, he'll get tense and try to hide behind me. If it's a large group of people, he'll refuse to walk until the group passes (which is a major problem when we're crossing the street). He barks at everything at home, but has never barked at anything when we're outside.

My dog is pretty relaxed at home unless someone comes to the door, then he barks up a storm. He's a great guard dog. He isn't quite so bad on walks but still feels protective, I guess? He's also really excitable so every time he sees a squirrel or something like that he wants to lunge after it. I know that sounds minor, but he's a big dog and that gets really old, really fast. We can rarely just WALK walk, at a relaxed pace and just enjoy the damn walk. He's always trying to run everywhere and pull me along after him. I have him on a special collar recced by the trainer and that helps, but he still does it.
