The actress is pretty but her make up looks terrible to me in this shot... really harsh and old-fashioned that ages her 10+ years. Is that what the kids are into now these days?

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I hate the eyebrows. I don't get drawn-in or overly-sculpted eyebrows. I get filling them in a little bit if you feel they are too sparse, but these just look like stickers.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, my, how horrible it is for a woman to appear older.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-09 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with this, Nonnie
Even when she's not in Phoenix mode, her make-up is on point.

I can't help but laugh. First comment says 'wow, terrible makeup', second comment says 'wow, awesome makeup'.

As a person who never does makeup....WHICH IS IT?!!

:D

She's very pretty, yes.

Depends on what they mean by makeup I guess.

Imo, in the theatrical sense, it looks good. What's accented needs to be accented, everything has good colors and contrast, nothing looks fake or painted on, there's clearly a style they're going for and it's coherent

In the personal sense, it looks pretty bad. This isn't what you'd wear to look pretty or modern. She looks older than she actually is

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
especially the eyebrows, for the second part.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
In the personal sense, it looks pretty bad.

I completely disagree. I've never seen her look this good, and I think a lot of that is the makeup. She looks like a classic bombshell here, smoldering and sensual and a bit timeless. It's true that she looks older than her age, but that's not a bad thing unless you ascribe to the notion that it's all downhill for a woman after her early twenties. She doesn't look older in an unhealthy, faded way - she looks womanly and bold, and personally I love that.

The only thing I questioned, at first, was the harshness of her brows. But I think that was a very deliberate choice, given the character's mental and emotional state in the movie. The harsh brows suggest an element of harshness, an almost predatory quality, in her character, which a softer brow wouldn't do.

I would say all of that falls under the theatrical bit, especially, again, your point about the eyebrows. It fits the character, which is the point of theaterical makeup.

Does it make Sophie Turner look like a better version of Sophie Turner? Not to me, she looks like someone else. But that's the point of theatrical makeup, unlike regular personal makeup

I can't get behind so many of the comments in this thread. She looks incredible.

I have no clue who this person is or how old she is. She looks in her early/mid twenties to me.

Makeup - too confusing.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
She looks older than she actually is

Pretty sure that's deliberate? Each of the reboot X-Men movies leaps forward about ten years since the last one. The character was in her late teens in the 80s and presumably she's meant to be in her late twenties in this movie. But the actress herself is younger than the character, so they deliberately made her look older than she is with their hair and makeup choices.

Her makeup is great simply due to the fact that she looks amazing. People who notice minuscule details are normally the insecure ones who thrive on spotting things they don't like on a face that is conventionally attractive.

It's, of course, easy to spot 'bad' makeup on STAGE MAKEUP that is meant to stand out on camera. I don't know if it's one dedicated person or maybe two, but there's definitely an insecure anon (or two) all up in this secret.

It looks good to me

IDK

I haven't seen the movie, but I definitely agree about Sophie Turner looking holy-shit gorgeous in this. Literally my first thought when I saw this secret, before I'd glanced down and read the text, was, "Woah. I had no idea Sophie Turner was this beautiful. Like, goddess-level gorgeous, damn."

I know this is going to sound kind of bitchy, but mad props to the makeup department. Because Sophie Turner is a very pretty girl, no question, but they've taker her looks to a whole other level here.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
With eyebrows that look drawn on with a Sharpie? Huh. Different strokes, indeed.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs*

I've seen other frames from the movie where I don't like her brows. But in this specific image, which is what I'm talking about, the whole look is gorgeous.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, someone in this thread hates Sophie Turner.

Tell yourself whatever you need, nonnie. If it helps you sleep better at night. She's hot whether you want her to be or not lmao

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
DA - You can still be hot even if your eyebrow game isn't on point. Sophie's a lovely lady. Those overdrawn brows are not her best look. Also, her lipstick shade doesn't flatter her weird CG effects and looks too dry.

Nobody's saying the actress is ugly, though. Some are saying the opposite - that they think she's pretty but it's specifically her make up and more specifically her eyebrows that looks bad.

Maybe consider moving beyond the superficial tumblr level "one criticism = haaaaaate" worldview? It's over simplistic.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
The movie's set in the 90s, and that was a very popular style of eyebrow makeup back then.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
it really wasn’t.

MTE. I distinctly remember my friends and I using brow pencil, and nothing else, to shape our brows, because that's what you did. That feathery, hair-like look was not a thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-10 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does this actress always look like she's only a few seconds away from breaking out in tears?
