I have a similar issue, OP. I read the summary of a book and think wow, that sounds great! Then I start reading and it's... okay, but didn't blow my mind. Then it keeps getting worse until I realize it's yet another book with a fascinating concept but the actual writing doesn't live up to its neat premise. It's really discouraging. :(

That might be it a little too. More interested in the idea than the execution.

Because it's like I'm most engaged when it's the beginning and there are so many possibilities it could go and start losing some interest when the story actually starts focusing on a path. And it's not like it's bad choice but just feels - safe maybe?
