I mean it's really not a double standard though, right? AC just happens to be one of the few stories where the main character can optionally switch sex and literally have the same story play out. Really think about how rare that is.

I'm not sure it's a double standard: it's just that some things have a bad reputation when associated with women and not if applied to men.

If we had good representation of female characters of every kind like we have for male ones people wouldn't be bothered by certain tropes applied to only one gender.

Exactly this. If you see a person constantly needing to be saved, for example, with a guy it's one thing but with a girl it's a stereotype we've seen enough of and don't need to keep seeing constantly. Not everything is 1:1. We're not all starting from the same place.
