Secrets you are toi lazy to make

I'll start!

I recently started watching "Carnival Row" and seeing Marc Guggenheims name in the credits kinda put me off. Now I dread continuing watching because i am still pissed at him for what he (among others) did to Arrow & Co.

Nothing grabs my attention any more. I think this means I'm getting old?

I totally feel that, anon...but then I'm also getting old!

Stuff still grabs my attention, but it's rare for me to get all OMG about it like I did when I was younger.

I still ship characters long after I've lost interest in whatever they're from.

Bonus: bless whoever makes those "all character A/character B scenes from season 1" videos

I got whiplash going from “yay!” to “ugh” because a Discworld Watch tv series written by Rhianna Pratchett? Yay! Casting a beautiful thin woman as vigilante Sybil Ramkin and murderous psychotic bastard Carcer as a black man? So much ugh.

Re: Secrets you are toi lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-09-21 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know they were doing that. I mean... really? A major part of Sybil's character is her size combined with her status as a Lady and how other people treat her because of it, vs. how Vimes sees her.

Agreed, absolutely

I admit I'm also a bit dubious about where they're going with Cheery's character - I was happy to hear they'd cast a nonbinary actor, that's cool... But hearing they were presenting *Cheery* as nonbinary, when her whole personal arc is that she's a woman (and, by the standards of her culture, a very feminine woman), really bothers me.

Is so disappointing in fics when the author builds and builds a situation or for a revelation for chapters and it's very underwhelming or it's resolved very quickly. And I don't know how to react to it, normally I just stop reading the fic, but should I say something to the author? I don't to comment something and appear as a hater

Re: Secrets you are toi lazy to make

If the author has said they're open to constructive criticism, then sure but proceed with caution because a lot of authors believe they're open to constructive criticism until they actually receive some.

But if they haven't specifically said this... I'd just leave it alone. It's a very common problem and incredibly disappointing, I agree. A lot of writers don't plan ahead very well but they know that building suspense to the climax draws a lot of interest so they do that, but they don't plan for how to resolve all that rising action satisfactorily.

I get it. I feel this way about stuff in regular media too. I've had to go "...what just happened?" once or twice while playing the most recent Ace Attorney games (whoa, has it been 3 years since the last one? Damn).

I think the godfather books are so weird written, I know that they were written by different people but they contradict themselves and change things from book to book so much that it seems the authors didn't read each other books.
At least I got some cool interactions between the corleone siblings

I hate when movies and tv shows try to portrait Queen Victoria as a feminist character when in real life she was against the feminist movement

noel gallagher and damon albarn going from hating each other during the battle of britpop to being friends to Damon saying the Noel is one of the few people that understand him is one of the best relationship growth that I ever seen, and is sad that there's basically no fics about them

Carole & Tuesday world confuses me so much, is so far away in the future that they don't know who the beatles are but rollingstone, pitchfork and the guardian are still relevant sources of music criticism(?)

I hate writers who say they're open to constructive criticism, or even just 'tell me if you notice any mistakes', but are then outraged when someone actually points out their mistakes.

I know it wasn't intentional but the people in charge of the power rangers brand should make Wes being Sky father canon, is just more interesting that way

I absolutely love a certain type of character: Avoidant attachment style, compulsively holds people they care about at arms length, extremely smart but also neurotic as fuck, compensates for a deep-seated sense of faultiness with a masterfully constructed veneer of cool bravado.

People are always saying what assholes these types of characters are, but I like them, and I rarely find them that bad. Their flaws make sense to me and feel sympathetic.

I thought the song Cake By The Ocean was about wanting to marry someone. I mean, I thought it was about being very sexually compatible with someone, and realizing that you want to lock that shit down, party it up at the wedding, and then have filthy wedding-night sex. But the whole reason I liked the song is because I thought the line "I keep on hoping we'll eat cake by the ocean" was an ingenious way of saying "I haven't proposed yet, but damn I want to marry you." (because where else do you eat cake by the ocean except at fancy weddings?)

S!B - now that I know "cake by the ocean" was just a dumb way of alluding to "sex on the beach," my interpretation feels kind of naive. (I still like it way better, tho.)

Crud!! Wrong spot!! Re-post: I think that Paul McCartney and John Lennon were lovers. I think Yoko knows, and she probably releases those occasional comments ("John wanted to have sex with men, but none of them were beautiful enough") to wind Paul up, AND to get in the news.
