I thought the song Cake By The Ocean was about wanting to marry someone. I mean, I thought it was about being very sexually compatible with someone, and realizing that you want to lock that shit down, party it up at the wedding, and then have filthy wedding-night sex. But the whole reason I liked the song is because I thought the line "I keep on hoping we'll eat cake by the ocean" was an ingenious way of saying "I haven't proposed yet, but damn I want to marry you." (because where else do you eat cake by the ocean except at fancy weddings?)

S!B - now that I know "cake by the ocean" was just a dumb way of alluding to "sex on the beach," my interpretation feels kind of naive. (I still like it way better, tho.)

I saw an interview with the band once where they explained the inspiration for the song. Apparently they were having a meal at restaurant in an English-as-second-language country (I can't remember exactly where) and when looking through the cocktail menu they found 'Sex On The Beach' had been poorly translated to 'Cake By The Ocean'.
