102 Is that Scott Fitzgerald? Man, I dunno, he was pretty mangy by the end. And it isn't so much that no one can compete, but I doubt you could have competed with Zelda anyway, because that was some seriously obsessive shit the two of them had going on. My favorite writer though, and I wouldn't have minded being friends with him, as heartbreaking as that would eventually have been.

113 My college roommate had a child die in infancy and she found in the parents grief group she joined that for the people who had faith, the experience made their faith stronger, and for those who were atheists like herself, it pushed them further in that direction. So while I would say that the House folks probably wouldn't be pleased at your secret, I bet you're not the only one.

116 I can't stand her either. As to that pic, some ladies in my office were completely scandalized that she actually kept her baby up all hours in order to show him off at the debate, and then her 8-year-old was lugging him around on the stage with no apparent supervision. They were like, "sure, big families, whatever, but a debate stage is not your back yard family picnic."

Well, I just want to note that this wasn't my objection, but the ladies in the office were emphasizing that it was a baby and not a child, and that it's all well and good to keep a school-aged kid up after their bedtime sometimes, but that baby has become so much a part of the whole Sarah Palin story (in a way the girls aren't a part of Obama's, do with that what you will) that she was willing to keep the baby out when it was clearly mostly sleeping. Also they had a problem with allowing the baby to be lugged around the stage by an 8-year-old. But you know, these are 50-year-old ladies from Queens who work in my office, so YMMV.

I don't see the issue with it, honestly. :| I mean, should my brother-in-law not be allowed to take the baby out to places while he sleeps because my sister is bone tired and needs a break? It's not exactly the same thing, no, but some babies really do sleep through just about everything and it doesn't really harm them. At least, so says my nephew's pediatrician, because my sister was worried about it.

As far as the 8 year old carrying the baby... *shrug*. If the parents think the child is responsible enough, it's not my issue.

I'll say this again: it wasn't my objection so I'm not really interested in defending it or not defending it. I put in that story because I found it funny that of everything that happened at that debate, it was that Sarah Palin kept her baby up past his bedtime that really infuriated these ladies. Also, it was their comment on Palin using the baby as some kind of symbol, which they found offensive. So at the very least I think there's a big difference between a baby asleep at the mall and one asleep on national television.

OP to 102. Oh hi there.

I know a lot about his life. And I know how utterly fucked up things were. But man, I really think that if I had been there instead of Zelda, maybe he would have been saved. But then again, he may have never written what he had...I just felt that he needed someone to save him. He certainly couldn't save himself, and Zelda just destroyed him even more. That wasn't really her fault, but damn, it makes me sad.

Ah, yeah. In my experience guys like him on some self-destructive path just keep going down it. Like, I think he'd be able to smell the general health of you and then would avoid you like the plague. Or, he's like one of those guys who loves helpless women who create a lot of drama because it makes them feel big and strong to be able to keep rescuing them.

Anyway, you can't save anyone who doesn't want to be saved. It sucks, but it's true. They have to save themselves.
