But you know, whatever! People can ship what they like! Hell, I ship Jet/Zuko, I'm not gonna judge! I think most of the tension came from people being dicks to each other and various canon-prediction arguements gone awry, not from Zuko/Katara as a perfectly understandable fanon ship.

147) What I liked about Princess Tutu personally was the concept of the narrator literally forcing characters to enact a tragic story, and their struggle against the narrative they've found themselves in. But the dancing was pretty cool, too!

Speaking as one of "the GLBT", I can see why you'd interpret it that way, but I think that's an overly simplistic reading. Personally, I loved it, for two reasons:

1) Gay love is used as a proxy for all love. Enigma learns the nature of love from being Michael's lover, which is a story that has as a subtext -- indeed, completely takes for granted -- that sexual love between men is real love, just as capable of being universally relevant as any other kind of love.
2) Michael's life becomes immensely better after he gets turned gay, to the point that when he's offered a way back, he doesn't take it.

Yes, what Enigma did was, to use the technical term, well dodgy. But Enigma grew up in a well with only lizards for companions. You can't really blame him for being *ahem* morally different.

104. tbh, I think a lot of Zutara shippers mistake "interesting dynamic" for "they're going to last!" Or at least, that's how they come off a lot.

Plus, all you shippers on Avatar fandom don't seem to recognize Aang and Katara are very young and therefore have a chance of parting different ways. Bawww for the Kaatangers, who don't ignore it. Yay for the Zutarians, who have active imaginations.

I mean, I don't care that people don't like the series, or don't think it's the best anime ever (and, really, why do you care that people do think it's the best anime ever?). But saying that it's "just another anime with a weird focus" (and what exactly qualifies something as an "anime with a weird focus"? Most anime seems pretty weird to me, regardless of how good or bad it is)...

The point of Princess Tutu isn't that it's a story about magical ballerinas using the power of dance to fight evil; the point is that it's an exploration of the nature of fairy tales and stories. I haven't even finished it and I can tell that it's about more than dancing evil to death.

You don't like it? Fine. Not everyone's going to, no matter how deep or "special" it is. But there's no reason to whine when other people see more in it than you do.

I guess what I'm saying isn't so much "how dare you not recognize what a perfect and wonderful series Princess Tutu is!" but rather "who are you to tell people whether an anime is 'special' or whether it's 'just another anime with a weird focus'?" Especially when the way you're trying to make the point about Princess Tutu being Just Some Random Dumb Anime, Who Cares seems to me rather deliberately obtuse.

Tutu's basic concept and characters are also heavily based on Swan Lake, which I didn't realize until I journeyed through Wiki one day. It's amazing how many parallels there are.

Anyway, I agree with you. It is a good series and definitely shouldn't be overlooked.
