I, personally, love Monty Python, but I admit it takes a certain sense of humour. They're not for everyone. Oh well. As long as you're not a total fucking cunt about your dislike of it, it's cool.

That's okay, not everyone has the same tastes in humor. I've gotten diaf-looks for saying I thought Life Of Brian is WAY funnier than Holy Grail. =/

112 - lol, that is kindof bitchy. Should I refer you to David Frum on Rachel Maddow the other day? There's nothing wrong whatsoever with finding humour in the situation. It doesn't mean I'm not taking it seriously. Turning to fandom makes it more fun. Were it no fun, I would be just as ignorant about the issues as my idiot roommate who refuses to register to vote. That's not to say that I don't understand where you're coming from, and to tell the truth in the last election, when I was too young to vote, I fangirled a lot harder than I looked at the issues. This time around I'm an issues gal, but I still have time for fun and fandom in the mix. There's nothing wrong with it. And I don't see how you can find anything wrong with it as long as someone's interested - if there's one thing I can't stand, it's ignorance, and the people who choose to ignore it completely.

I intern in a psych crisis unit and I'm torn here. Part of me watches things from the other side of the counter and says that we do the best we can with very little funding and staff. People are in these places because otherwise they/their loved ones will get physically hurt. The no pens/shoelaces/belts thing is reasonable if half the unit might kill themselves with them, and half the time we're seeing people who are schizophrenics living in another reality so they HAVE to be talked to slowly and kindly, or they're not going to trust us enough to understand they have an illness.

On the other hand, I'm a social work intern. The few of us that are out there do a good job, I like to think. But when it comes to the nurses and psychiatrists I've seen my fair share of indifference, dismissiveness, rudeness, and lack of empathy. And it's impossible to make most state-funded places not seem like prisons, because of how little support they get from the community. I really, really wish that was better, and I'm sorry you encountered your share of it.

I hope I'm not invalidating what you're feeling by giving my end of it. I'm sorry if I am; you deserve to be heard. Best of luck to you in everything from now on.

Judging from your replies to previous comments, you hate the show because your friend ditched you for it during an important time, yeah? That's is a pretty shitty to do, and yeah, I understand how it could be frustrating when a person, no matter how close, won't shut up about something you don't particularly like.

You probably should have worded your secret differently, though, because from the secret alone, all one can glean is that you just despise the show, and hate your friend solely because she likes it. And that comes off as kind of mean.

You're not alone. A friend of mine was so excited when I and my roommate finally agreed to watch it. We were so bored in the first 20 minutes that when he went to bathroom, we fast-forwarded to the last chapter of the DVD. He was so confused when he came back!

The musical, though, was super hilarious.

You're forgetting True Romance! Sam Jackson is in it for like, 5 seconds and Christopher Walken has a pretty good role. Still no scenes together, though. :/ You should watch it.
