Butthurt it is not. It's simply wishing for a little bit of courtesy.

I don't appreciate people making a fool out of me when I clearly didn't have any ill intentions to start out with.

I've been reading this thread of yours just now, and actually...people are being pretty polite to you. You were, mostly, getting treated with all the courtesy and good intentions which fitted your own behaviour. I think you are over-reacting. This stuff about Palin is known all over the world, so posters here expressing shock that someone doesn't know about it really isn't strange at all.

Mostly, yes. People were generally all right to me. What stood out, though, were those implying that I was some sort of fool for not knowing about all of it, asking "What hell rock have you been living under the past 2 months?" and saying "you're not very bright".

I came in here ignorant, sure, but I was unnecessarily mocked for it by a few people. That's just in bad taste, and I'm not going to just let it slide.

I'll go and check to see what they said.

Ah. Well, thing is, to be on the internet and not know this stuff is a bit like having been under a rock - it really is that well known. I don't think that person actually meant you were stupid for not knowing it. How could you be, if no-one told you about it?

The "you're not very bright" comment was not a reply in the context of your original question. If it had been a reply to that, it'd have been harsh, yes. But the comment of yours it was replying to was frankly rather strange and invited a response like the one that anon gave. Maybe that wasn't the reaction you intended it to have, but it isn't one which surprises me.

I've seen a lot worse mocking than that, really. I wouldn't call it in bad taste. It could be that the way you wrote your responding comments hasn't given the impression you intended them to, and that's why you're surprised by some of the less relaxed comments you've received in response. If I were you, I wouldn't be too worried about them.
