I don't mind this storyline, simply because of the interesting character interactions we got through it and the way the team dealt with all the craziness surrounding it. I just liked the drama of it all. Plus, in terms of fic potential, certainly plenty to play around with there as well :D.

But yeah, I can easily see why you feel the way you do about it, too, and I won't argue that in terms of realism and whatnot, the storyline is freaking ridiculous on that level.

I do agree that Emily and Doyle did have an intriguing chemistry, though, yes. I like how Emily struggled with her complicated feelings regarding him.

I'm probably prejudiced because I know the reason behind why JJ was poached by the Pentagon or whatever and Prentiss had to "die". That was just a terrible decision on the show/network's part. But you're right, it did mean some interesting character interactions during and after.

AYRT

Exactly! If the real life reason behind why they wrote this storyline for her (and the one you mentioned for JJ) weren't so shitty, maybe it would've gone down a little easier. But that definitely didn't help matters, no. It's tough when the real life reasons for writing characters out on TV shows bleeds through so strongly like that.

(One interesting thing about Emily's storyline here, though-you go back and look at some moments from the earlier seasons, where she's kinda tight-lipped about her past and gets antsy about people scrutinizing her, and she and Morgan bond over that Vonnegut book about the spy...it is kinda funny how that seems to be unintentional foreshadowing for her having this huge secretive past :D.)

I agree with everything. I hate undercover plots in general, this wasn't a very well-executed one, and the outside-the-show reason for it was bad. Really a lowlight for the series as a whole to me (and lord knows there's plenty of competition).

But also... Paget *heart eyes*

Agreed. I love the show, but it's had some humdingers in terms of bad ideas, bad execution, etc.

But yes... Paget Brewster, hot damn!

It's incredible for a show to be that bad and still be good, lol

For a crime drama, it's pretty good - that's making allowances for all the clichés and tropes. I think their best work was in the earlier seasons with the original cast, and when they added Mantegna as Rossi. The characterization was astonishingly tight for an ensemble crime drama and my favorite moments are the ones that show the connections and friendships between the team members. That's not the case in later seasons, IMO.

Da - really? The characterization always felt quite forced to me, but again, that is about so YMMV as it gets.
