Not OP, but I prefer spinning my own version, because (with only one exception) canon has never done it the way I wanted.

That makes sense. I'm not really into shipping anymore, but back when I used to my ships would sometimes be teased but they'd never become canon. It sucked, but I imagine having your ship soured by bad writing could be worse.

I feel that. I'm tired of the "real" writers flubbing the shit out of romances. Not all of them, of course... just the ones that have obvious buildup and then... it falls flat or else the couple MUST break up! If I wanted that kind of thing, I would have kept watching soap operas.

I'm the OP of the original comment. My reasons are basically what others have said in that I prefer my version of tge romance. Also I rarely see canon romances done well.
