I mean there's no way a shepherd could pass for a wolf without heavy after effects anyway... and even a big husky/husky mix won't look right to someone who knows wolves. So I get why they use CGI even though it's not a perfect solution. The dogs who are big enough for the scale to be right with people don't have a wolfy enough look, the dogs who are a little more wolf-shaped are a little small, and the eyes aren't right...

For some things, I'd think the solution would be a professional trainer with a wolf mix, but that doesn't always work for a shoot either.
