What is the dumbest thing you've seen someone do recently?

Some people make you wonder how they have survived this long.

Express shock that there are doctors in Japan. While living in Japan. (They only moved here a month or so ago, but even so... and not to mention not knowing that to begin with.)

Why would anyone be surprised there are doctors anywhere? That's so weird.

Like... they didn't actually believe any Doctors lived or worked in Japan? Wow... I really can't wrap my head around that.

No, they're married to a Japanese person.

I'm an ALT.

Me: I'm expecting a package and--
Mail lady: That not for you.
Me: I know it isn't, it's the wrong size. I was going to ask if you got any others.
Mail lady: That not for you!
Me: I just said I know that one isn't because it's the wrong size, did you get any other packages?

You obviously look like a mail thief.

My stepfather is just like this daily. The thing that gets me most is how he always uses scissors or anything sharp pointed towards himself or his other hand. He's injured himself multiple times doing this, and I stop and correct him every time I see it, but HE STILL DOES IT. I had to drive him to hospital because he cut through the tendon on his non-dominant hand once and had to have surgery. STILL DOES IT.

He somehow completed a Masters program at University.

oh god. I've only seen little kids do that.

He does a lot of things in unsafe and stupid ways. It is exactly like living with a small child. I watch him more carefully in the kitchen and garage than I do my nephews. I have to keep my tools locked up so he doesn't use them. I caught him sticking a screw driver in an electric socket because "the plug wasn't going in right" once. Fork in the toaster to retrieve bagel. On the ladder without locking the sides so it was bending as he was climbing. I don't have time to list everything. There is so much.

He's like a very large toddler who thinks he can do no wrong. Honestly that's probably why he can't learn anything. He will never admit he did anything wrong so he doesn't learn from his mistakes. He just insists he was doing it right all along.

Yes! My mother does this constantly. She'll hold the blade of a knife while trying to slice things, pointed towards herself, an be surprised when she gets cut! I'll have to bandage up her fingers, and when I get back from washing up, she'll literally be doing the exact same thing! The best answer I've got from her is that 'she doesn't know how to so it any other way'! I'll show her how, point out how chefs hold their knife while she's watching her cooking shows, but she jus doesn't listen!
The worst part is that she doesn't use common sense that you can't see heat. She will reach into the over to grab food after it's been cooked! Grab the metal of the pan while the burner is still on, and /PUT HER HAND IN BOILING WATER/ because she thinks it won't hurt if she only does it for a second! Holy shit, I don't know what to do with her sometimes!

The dumbest is the whole situation involving the Karnes detention center. It was holding women, now it will be holding families. So they moved all the women out to different detention centers. Only they didn't tell the courts where they moved them. And the courts have decided that this means they are just going to pretend like nothing has been filed for these clients and we'll have to file everything new once we find out where they are being held now. Only they didn't actually tell anyone this.

Like, we had a bond application that was filed in early September. Only found out today that a new one would have to be filed because I went to the court to ask what was going on because no one would tell us anything over the phone.

They do as little work as possible basically. It is ridiculous. The different government branches can communicate. They know where the immigrants are located because they were able to schedule new judges and hearing dates. There is no reason for them to be doing this other than sheer laziness.

Laziness or malice

I'm not sure I think the court has malice. The detention centers and employees, sure. Some specific judges, sure. But court system, nah. Going with laziness.

Why not both?

The entire situation surround the detention centres is horrible enough already, but how can they just throw people around like that, and not inform everyone where they're sending them? Like what the hell?

Driving to work on a four lane highway. I have to use a crossover median to get to my road. One of these basic ones.

So, I turn into the median and yield for a car going down the highway. This person STOPS in the middle of the highway. I make the universal 'The fuck you doing' hand motions and they gesture for me to cross. I gesture for them to keep going but they just keep motioning my to cross. I thought it might have been one of my coworkers. But it wasn't. Just a crazy person.

I've noticed older people do the same thing when I go on walks.

George Carlin referred to that as "courtesy shit." It's so fucking annoying when people, for no reason, go out of their way to let someone else in when THEY actually have the right of way, not the other person. Not to mention dangerous and stupid. People in my hometown have actually died because of this. Some dude on a motorcycle (right lane) ran straight into Car A making a left turn they never should have made but because Car B (left lane) was deliberately leaving space for that, neither Car A nor the motorcycle rider saw each other.

I swear if people were required to take the driving test every year, they'd fail just on who has the right of way.

Of course, then here in Texas you mostly have the opposite problem of everyone thinking they have the right of way, even when they don't. Occasionally you do get people stupidly offering the right of way. But mostly you have the stupidity of stupidly taking the right of way that isn't yours. I swear, it seems like people around here think driving is about comparing penis sizes, even the women.
